It's been five years. Five years since the Lich King's fall. Most of Stormwind was still in mourning over the lives of thousands of heroic men and women lost during the campaign, not to mention all the lives lost to Arthas's past campaign through Eastern Kingdoms.
Prince Anduin, now a youth of fifteen, sat in a Cathedral pew with his hands folded in his lap. He looked up at the stain glass window and the head of the cathedral and sighed.
"Anduin?" a voice called.
Anduin looked over his shoulder, his blond bangs swaying. He smiled, "Mama Ruki," he grinned as he stood up to hug her.
"An' me!" a five year old Leona squeaked, takes her brother in her arms.
Anduin took the child from his stepmother. "I take it father sent you after me?" The young man's forehead scrounched up as he recalled the bitter encounter he had.
Ruki shook her head. "No," she touched his face gently. "I just wanted to make sure you're alright."
"I'm fine," Anduin barked. He flinched when he heard Leona whimper. Drawing a heavy sigh, he returned his sister to Ruki. "I just needed to clear my head is all."
Ruki pulled the boy into a hug, gently petting his hair. "Everything will be fine - you just need to learn that your father always wants what's best for you."
Anduin's voice had a hint of distress as it came muffled from her side. "I just wish he'd listen to me. I don't want to be a warrior." Tears began to stain Ruki's robes as she comforted him.
"I don't know your Father's reasonings for you wanting to be a warrior, but I can assure you that as long as I'm around I promise that I'll do my best to keep him in check."
Anduin was soothed by the words but his tears wouldn't stop; they just streamed out of his sapphire eyes until he started to hack and cough.
Ruki sat him down and rubbed his back. Balancing Leona on her knee he pulled Anduin to her chest and held him there. She smiled when Anduin rested an ear over her beating heart.
Anduin dropped his fistful of her robes and sighed contently.
"You love heartbeats, don't you?"
Anduin nodded. "It's soothing beyond belief- knowing someone you love is alive and well."
"I wanna hear!" Leona chirped as Anduin removed his head and chuckled. She hopped up on Ruki's lap and pressed her ear where Anduin had his. She gasped in wonderment. "I hear it!"
Ruki smiled, petting her hair.
"Andy's turn!" Leona shifted laps and pressed her ear to Anduin's chest. She grinned. "Andy has one too!" She snuggled nto his chest. "Thump-thump. Thump-thump. Thump-thump," she giggled.
Ruki smiled. "Come on, Daddy's waiting on us to come home."
Leona hopped off Anduin's lap and started to skip down the aisle.
"Leona, don't go outside!" Ruki yelled after her. She stood and smoothed out her robes and follwed.
Anduin looked up at the stained-glass window again before sighing and following.
